And there goes March. Gosh, time flies by, doesn’t it?
Despite work not going so great, this month has been extremely positive as a whole, experiencing a lot along the way.
I have to start by saying how thankful I am for the many people I saw on YouTube’s motivational videos a few months back. They allowed me to finally give proper writing a go and this is slowly but surely changing my outlook on life.
Now, how have we done this month?
1. Positive aspects
I finally succeeded in getting a proper rhythm. I have been able to schedule articles more and more.
While still a bit stressed I’ll get caught up due to spending 2 or 3 days on 1 article many times, it has been compensated with a few days during which I wrote 2 or 3 entire ones.
Having the peace of mind of waking up knowing my article is already written allows me to think more about the content I want to put out and thus bring more quality into the world. Obviously, my quality still has ways to go but I am slowly learning to improve.
In regards to quality, I have started to analyze more in-depth my articles. I have succeeded in lowering greatly the number of times I use “that” and am beginning to compile a list of words/expressions which keep on appearing in my articles.
I expect this to have an incremental effect in the quality along the incoming months.
As planned, I wrote two articles about Burmese interrogations which took a long time to write as I was still learning while writing. Yet, it allowed me to consolidate the knowledge learned and start to know how to type in Burmese. I feel that my second article about it was more organized and thus useful but there are still improvements left to do for future ones.
Finally, I got back into the habit of reading both online and books. Nothing much to say about it but I do think it is allowing me to improve as a writer through analyzing others’ work.
2. Negative aspects
As a backfire of having some scheduled articles, I have stopped in the middle of writing some articles here and there. The absence of pressure of “I need to post this today!” seems to have an impact on my control over my feelings.
I suppose this is due to it being the first time to have a bit of leeway so hopefully, I won’t be letting myself go too much.
Many of my articles seem to have gone down once more in terms of length. I guess this comes from my attempt to control how messy my articles get. I must be unconsciously shortening them to avoid it.
Yet, this is not too much of a problem since the most important is the quality over the quantity. If I have a lot to say on a certain topic, I am sure I will write a long article.
3. Goals for April
April will prove to be a complicated month again. I will go back to France for 3 weeks starting the 22nd and sticking to the same schedule will be complicated.
I will get to have more time on my hands but the program I have there may mess it up quite a bit. This is why I should keep this rhythm of scheduling some articles in advance.
I also want to increase the amount I read because, after all, “Readers are leaders” and I won’t get better if I don’t read enough.
My main goal, though, will be the organization of my articles. I want to focus on getting a better handle on how to create articles which are interesting, pleasant and easy to read.
I suppose articles with numbered parts (like this one) are easier to read so I will try to organize more in this way.
This challenge I would have never even pictured myself doing a year ago is proving to be extremely insightful and addictive.
Through thinking more and more in terms of “What this experience interesting?”, “How could I explain this?” and so on, I have reflected on myself a lot.
This has, in turn, allowed me to have extremely deep conversations with a few people and discovered new facets of their personalities. I love this and hope this happens again!
