Focus On Managing Your Attention More Than Your Time
“Attention is the most important ingredient we have to living a good, productive life” — Chris Bailey
We all have the same 24 hours in a day. Yet, some people accomplish a lot more than others. It’s easy to think the reason is that some manage their time better. But that’s just part of the larger picture.
Even if you make use of the tiny bits of time here and there, you might not accomplish that much. What matters, even more, is your attention. How you manage your attention impacts the quality of your life more than any other variable.
How often do you feel fulfilled after replying to messages on Facebook while writing an email, listening to music, and talking to your partner? Probably never, right?
How often do you feel fulfilled after having spent an hour reading? Or Studying? Or developing a project? Quite often I’d guess.
The difference isn’t in the quality of the tasks, it’s in the attention you’ve put in it.
Even playing an interesting game could make your day better. Why? Because all your attention is directed towards it. The rest of the world doesn’t matter while you are concentrated on the game.
