Have you ever wanted something real bad, given up on it and then it happened?
It’s not something which happens every single day, but it does happen once in a while. Sometimes, you may not even really want something but then it just pops up and you’re pleasantly surprised.
I met my girlfriend about 1 year and a half ago but it turns out we were in the same school at the same time, with the same group of friends 8 years ago! I didn’t know her but she knew of me and thought I looked scary. (Just thinking about this makes her laugh now since I’m anything but scary.)
Life doesn’t always work out the way you want it to be. Or it may do so, but with so much delay you forget entirely you wanted it in the first place.
Obviously, it’s not that pleasant of a feeling. But realizing and accepting this weird fact allows us to learn patience.
I have come to notice that every single person in my entourage knows the importance of patience but the vast majority of them doesn’t actively work to develop it.
People will usually tell you to be patient but will get cranky because their internet page took more than 5 seconds to load. That’s kind of hypocritical but it does make sense.
We don’t see our own impatience
We are our own life’s main character and just like in every movie we’ve ever seen, the main character never realizes his own skills and flaws until way further in the plot.
Being a bit impatient here and there isn’t a problem in itself. It pushes us to make efforts to go further and develop faster and better.
However, time will never move faster or slower. No matter what happens, its flow will stay constant.
The only action you can take over it is accepting that flow and act accordingly.
All the actions you will take will need time to be developed and show results.
Learn to notice your own impatience and interrupt it right now. You will not only become able to appreciate the slow, small, improvements but also see them compound.
As you notice this compounding happening, you can find new opportunities, new aspects to add to the mix, improve the result further by taking even more actions.
After all, it’ll still take some time to obtain whatever you’re looking for and being patient is the only way to stop that feeling of urgency you can’t seem to prevent yourself from having.
