Two Sacrifices That Allowed Me to Grow More Than Anything Else

Since I discovered self-improvement in 2018, I’ve never looked back. Well, that’s not true. I have looked back for two reasons:

  • Understanding myself more to prepare for a better future.
  • Wondering how I survived that long with the way I was living.

Despite having lived a comfortable childhood, I felt miserable and hid my true self from others until I was in my mid-twenties. Ever since I started accepting who I was, I’ve only gotten more comfortable and proud of who I am.

Along the way, I’ve had to make a few sacrifices. Some of them weren’t so hard, such as reducing my daily sugar or coffee intake. Some were a lot harder than I expected.

Learning to be alone

I used to party a lot with a lot of people. I hated missing a potentially good story. I wanted to be part of everything. For a semester, my apartment was considered the place to be for exchange students. I’d gather 65 people in an apartment that was under 60 square meters.

The idea of being left alone scared the hell out of me. I had been trained to have a severe case of FOMO.
